Common Symptoms and Treatments

Bob can help with a wide range of problems and symptoms. If you would like to have a consultation with Bob about your ailment or injury, you can contact him here.

Headaches & Migraines

Many of Bob’s patients are experiencing throbbing head pain, pains behind their eyes or at the tops or sides of their heads. These symptoms can be caused by vertebrae being out of alignment and putting pressure on a peripheral nerve.

Bob treats these patients with a gentle adjustment of the vertebrae, which takes the pressure off the nerve causing the pain.

Neck Pain

Bob often treats patients who are experiencing pain or stiffness in their necks, muscle spasms, or loss of mobility. This is often caused when their vertebrae are misaligned.

A gentle chiropractic adjustment will bring relief to these symptoms.

Back Pain

Bob frequently helps patients who are suffering from pain, aches, stiffness, or muscle spasms in their backs. These symptoms can be brought on when vertebrae are misaligned - often in the thoracic, neck, or lumbar areas. The problem could also be based on a repetitive strain on the back, often from work or heavy lifting. Blunt force trauma can also be the source of the problem, such as work related accidents or a car crash.

A simple chiropractic adjustment can realign the vertebrae and provide relief from the pain.

Protruding or Herniated Discs

Where a patient has a protruding or herniated disc, quite often a chiropractor may try to forcefully return the disc back into alignment.

Bob’s gentle, low impact technique adjusts a different area of spine, such as the neck, instead. This has the effect of moving the protruding vertebrae in the lumbar area back into normal alignment on its own, without the need for forceful treatment.

Degenerative Discs

A degenerated disc can be a long running condition, leaving the patient feeling stiff or in pain.

The treatment for a degenerated disc can include a course of multiple adjustments and a home program of exercises to build up and recondition the muscles. This helps restore the natural curve of the spine in the cervical and lumbar areas, and alleviates the condition.

Shoulder and Arm Pain

Most arm pain such as golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, baseball elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, are usually caused by misalignment of the cervical vertebrae. The misalignment of vertebrae in the neck can trap nerves that run down the shoulder through the arms and fingers. This then creates the symptoms and pain that the patient is feeling.

Treatment includes adjustment of the misalignment of the vertebrae, which restores the natural curve of the cervical area of the spine. This releases trapped nerves and cures the patient of the pain.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia first appeared as a diagnosis in 1984. It can often be used to describe a cluster of complex symptoms. It’s generally more prevalent in women than men. There can be cases where a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is in actuality the damage being caused by multiple vertebrae being out of alignment, known as a multiple subluxation complex. This can be very painful for the patient, as the misaligned vertebrae can trap nerves, causing aches, pains, and other knock on effects across the body.

Dealing with these symptoms include chiropractic adjustments and physiotherapy necessary to restore the natural alignment of the patient’s spine. This releases any trapped nerves and resolves the symptoms.

Sciatica and Leg Pain

Sciatica and much of the leg pain that Bob treats are caused by an entrapment of nerves by the lower lumbar vertebrae. The nerves that exit the sides of these vertebrae travel down into the hips and the sacrum. These spinal nerves that reach the sacrum are called the cauda equina, latin for ‘horsetail feathers’. They send and receive messages to and from your legs, feet, and pelvic organs. The cauda equina are tied into the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body. Some women will say that sciatic pain is worse than childbirth.

The treatment for sciatica is to correct the nerve pressure in the lower part of the back by proper adjustments in the cervical and lumbar areas of the spine, and the pelvis.

Arthritis

People often come to Bob for arthritic pain of the spine. This may be caused by a degenerated disc, or by anterior or posterior osteophytes (bone spurs), which lead to overall degeneration and arthritis of the spine. It usually takes many years for this arthritis to develop, and can be exacerbated by the patient’s diet.

Treatment involves realignment of the spine and sometimes a change in diet and exercise regime.

Sports Injuries

Chiropractic treatment can provide relief in the case of many common sports injuries sustained in GAA, rugby, football, golf, baseball, hurling, tennis, badminton, and more.

Many patients ring or text Ashbourne Chiropractor for an initial consultation over the phone to assess if Bob can help with their injury or ailment. You can contact Bob here to arrange an over the phone consultation.
